The Naval Lab researches various hulls and armors.
Larger hulls and stronger armor require a higher-level Naval Lab.
As of May 2014, Naval Lab upgrade times appear to be much shorter than they used to be. Level 9 build time has been updated, but 1-8 may be off. Also, a level 10 Naval Lab is a requirement for a level 5 Outpost upgrade, so the old information stating that an Outpost level 5 was a requirement for the Naval Lab level 10 upgrade has been changed.
Naval Lab 11 is where you research the new Turret Armors (Sept. 2014)
